Work Placement Inspires Student To Take The High Jump for Charity
Date: 17 Aug 2008
A local West Lothian College student has decided to undertake a parachute jump for charity to show his appreciation for the experience gained during a work placement at Almondvale Shopping Centre.
This month, Sean Wyse of Craigshill in Livingston, will make the trip to Auchterarder and jump from 10,000ft to help raise funds for the shopping centre’s chosen charity Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The 18 year old student, who undertook the work placement as part of his HNC in Media and Communications at West Lothian College, felt the charity jump would be the perfect way to show his gratitude.
Sean said:”I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the centre and worked closely with all members of the management team. They are all incredibly friendly and really took me under their wing.
“I learnt a lot from my experience which included attending meetings, helping with campaigns and taking part in tours of the new Elements which is fantastic.
“I wanted to repay the centre in some way for the help and thought the jump would be a real challenge as well as raise plenty of funds. I am scared of heights but am determined to do it.”
Almondvale Shopping Centre has been raising funds for the cancer charity since March 2007 through a successful monthly events programme which has included the Guinness World Record Face Painting Championship and the recent Fringe on the Fringe event.
Marie Curie is one of the UK's largest charities, employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals. It provides care to terminally ill patients in the community and in hospices, along with support for their families.
Jennifer Bruce, marketing manager at Almondvale Shopping Centre adds: “It was a pleasure having Sean working with us and we are overwhelmed by his kindness and determination to do such a mammoth activity for the charity.”
Sean will make the charity jump on Sunday 31st August.
